Our Story

Maya Cashmere was founded by two sisters. Growing up in a family renowned for their exquisite craftsmanship in shawl-making, they were fascinated by the Himalayan region's tradition and vibrant colours. Each shawl told a story, reflecting not only the art of its maker but also the rich culture and history of the area.

Despite this rich legacy, they noticed that many skilled artisans struggled to sustain their craft due to a lack of market access and modern business practices. Determined to make a change, they decided to open their own production house for pashmina products. Their vision was to create beautiful shawls, empower women, and preserve the centuries-old tradition.

With their savings and a small loan from a local bank, They rented a modest space in the heart of Lalitpur, Nepal. They adorned the walls with vibrant images of Himalayan landscapes and the shawls their family had created over the years. Their first step was to gather a team of skilled women, many of whom were their relatives and friends. They invited them to share their expertise and encouraged them to express their creativity freely.

They introduced the artisans to modern production techniques while maintaining their traditional methods. They organized workshops that combined age-old weaving techniques with contemporary design trends. This merge of tradition and innovation resulted in a stunning collection of products that appealed to local and international markets.

They utilized social media and e-commerce platforms to promote their pashminas, reaching customers far beyond Nepal's borders. They also participated in exhibitions and fairs, showcasing the beauty of craftsmanship and telling the story behind each piece. Their dedication paid off, and demand for their pashminas grew.

As the production house flourished, it remained committed to uplifting the artisans. It established fair wages, provided skill development training, and created a supportive community where everyone felt valued. The artisans honed their skills and gained confidence and economic independence.

Maya Cashmere became a symbol of resilience and artistry. It attracted visitors from around the world who came to appreciate the craftsmanship and learn about the cultural significance of pashmina's.

Through passion, determination, and a commitment to tradition, They had woven a new chapter for the Nepali shawl-making craft, ensuring it would continue to be cherished for generations.
